Fresh ideas for a growing industry

Who we are: Behind the scenes

BOYD MCLAREN: LEADER OF THE PACK

As a university student Boyd McLaren discovered his passion for the motorcycle and an aptitude for working with code to make things happen in the real world.

He got a leather jacket, and created a stock control program that kept track of packaging materials used in packhouses.

This project is now grown (along with the man himself) to become CropPak, one of the most successful tools used in one of the region's key industries.

A BORN NELSONIAN

Positive Software is rooted in the same soil as the industry it is serving.

Boyd: "I am a born nelsonian and like the hardworking humble ethic of the average Nelson packer"

ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY

Nelson is well known for its sunshine hours, laid back lifestyle, quality seafood and agricultural products, vineyards and orchards. Gorgeous scenery, bayside living. National parks. Maori cultural influences - a tattooist heaven. This was Boyd's stomping ground as a kid, especially around the beaches and Tahunanui.

BUSINESS STYLE

In keeping with his Nelson roots, Boyd is a pretty relaxed and laid-back businessman. That in no way means he does not take things seriously, he is in fact "serious as all heck".

His business style could be summed up as relaxed, quietly confident, committed to results, and giving good personal service. With a good competitive streak that keeps him on his toes.

Boyd: "I am determined to be second to none in the Nelson area". While there has been some interest from within and from without in expanding into new markets, Boyd's view is "Promoting the word outside Nelson becomes secondary and comes from our solid base here."
